Roth Gair Golf Day
The Lions Club of Forest Hill continued to raise much needed funds for the Macular Degeneration Foundation at their 4th Annual Roth Gair Charity Golf Day.
The day, held on Sunday 6 February 2011 at the Rosebud Country Club, was a huge success with players and supporters enjoying the golf and other activities.
“Once again, our heartfelt thanks go to Ian Kennedy and the Lions Club of Forest Hill for organising the fourth annual golf day, they are an amazing team, so dedicated to our cause”, said Julie Heraghty, Chief Executive Officer of the Macular Degeneration Foundation.
“The planning, commitment and support from the Lions Club, friends, helpers and generous sponsors make this day a truly memorable experience”, she added.
Organiser Ian Kennedy explained his motivation behind the event with a heartfelt speech about his family connection with this devastating disease.
“My Godfather the late Roth Gair had Macular Degeneration (MD) and loved his golf. I witnessed the impact the disease had on his vision and quality of life, and I wanted to support the great work of the Foundation to raise awareness and provide support for people with Macular Degeneration”, explained Ian.
The MD Foundation thanks Mr Louis Eppel of Optimed and Optometrist Spiros Magdalinos from OPSM Eye Hub for donating their time and expertise to provide free eye tests for all golfers and attendees at the fundraising lunch. This really drove home the Foundation’s message to “get your eyes tested and make sure your macula is checked”.
The MD Foundation is most grateful to Mr Kennedy and his team, as well as the major sponsor Ultimate Business Services and all other sponsors and supporters.
The organisation has already commenced for the fifth Annual Roth Gair Charity Golf Day planned for the Sunday 5 February 2012.
