Audio Description Trial
In August this year the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy in conjunction with ABC1 launched the first ever trial in Australia for audio description on free to air television. The trial will run for 13 weeks on ABC1 for 14 hours per week.
The department describes audio description as "...an additional verbal commentary that complements the underlying soundtrack of a program. It is narration that explains what is happening visually during television programs, movies, DVDs or live performances."
The Audio Description Trial is set to end on 4 November 2012. To show your support to keep this service going for all Australians who are blind or vision impaired, you can send a postcard to the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, and the ABC's Managing Director, Mark Scott.
