    Frequently Asked Questions

    Q. How long are entries open?
    Entries for the 2017 competition are open from Tuesday 8 August 2017 to Tuesday 3 October 2017.
     
    Q. Who can enter?
    Entry to this competition (other than entry to the Junior category of this competition) is open to Australian residents who are 18 years and over. Entry to the Junior category of this competition is open to Australian residents who are under the age of 18 as at Tuesday 3 October 2017.
     
    Q. What categories are open for entry?
    • Open - General Public category - Australian residents who are 18 years and over can enter this category.
    • Macular Disease Community category - Entry is restricted to Australian residents who live with macular disease and their family, friends and carers.
    • Healthcare Professional category - Entry is restricted to Australian residents who work as a healthcare professional, including optometrists, ophthalmologists, general practitioners, complementary healthcare workers, nurses, pharmacists and pharmacy assistants.
    • Junior category - Entry is restricted to Australian residents under the age of 18 as at Tuesday 3 October 2017. All entries in the Junior category must have permission from a parent or guardian to submit a valid entry for the competition as indicated in the entry form. The parental consent form must be completed and uploaded with entry. Alternatively the signed form can be emailed (scanned), faxed or posted to the Foundation (contact details). The Parental Consent Form can be downloaded here.
     
    Q. How do I enter?
    Entries must be submitted online via the online submission form: www.mdfoundation.com.au/2017meyephotocomp
    Each entry must include a photograph and a 30-60 word description explaining how the photograph captures the competition theme See My World - in your own backyard. Note: For those with a vision impairment or no possible access to a computer, please contact the Macular Disease Foundation Australia on 1800 111 709 to discuss.
     
    Q. How many times can I enter?
    A maximum of 1 entries per category, per person, to a maximum of 3 entries for 3 categories, will be accepted. Entries are judged based on the entry's creativity, composition, content and technique, not the number of entries received.
     
    Q. Can I enter my photo in more than one category?
    Yes, a maximum of 1 entry per category, per person, will be accepted. However, you may only enter your photos into categories that you are eligible to enter.
     
    Q. Are there any age limits?
    Entry to this competition (other than entry to the Junior category of this competition) is open to Australian residents who are 18 years and over. Entry to the Junior category of this competition is open to Australian residents who are under the age of 18 as at Tuesday 3 October 2017.
     
    Q. How will I know my entry has been received?
    You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your entry shortly after submitting your entry.
     
    Q. What are the disqualification rules?
    The judges’ decision is final. The Promoter (Macular Disease Foundation Australia) reserves the right to disqualify an entry if the content is deemed inappropriate and not in accordance with The Promoter’s values, and for the other reasons set out in the Terms & Conditions.
     
    Q. If my photo doesn't win, can I enter it again next year?
    No, each photo can only be entered once.
     
    Q. If my photo doesn't win, can I appeal?
    No, the judges’ decision is final.
     
    Q. What size should my photo be?
    Please be advised that images submitted are to be a minimum size of 1MB and a maximum size of 10MB. Also note that images that sit outside of the sizes noted will not be automatically disqualified. It will be at the judge's discretion as to whether they are accepted or declined based on the judging criteria.
     
    Q. Can I edit or enhance my photo?
    Clause 15 notes that entries may not be digitally enhanced or manipulated in any way (including Instagram filters). As clarification, the aim of the competition is to raise awareness of macular disease and highlight just how precious our sight is. This clause is designed to encourage entrants to capture a real image from their world. The clause is not directed towards cropping photos or making other minor adjustments such as to the colour, brightness or contrast of photos.
